In celebration of International Children’s Day, an exhibition of artworks by children from a care centre is open

From 1 to 30 June, the exhibition of artworks by children with severe and very severe mental or physical disabilities from the State Social Care Centre (SSCC) Riga Teika branch is on display in the exhibition hall on the 3rd floor of the shopping and entertainment centre AKROPOLE Alfa. All visitors will have the opportunity to see the works of three young artists, which together form an exhibition of 55 colourful and creative works in various forms. The exhibition is free to visit every day from 10:00 to 21:00.

In addition to other creative activities, children at SSCC Riga Teika branch enjoy visual art classes. Under the guidance of the teacher and artist Ilgvars Zalāns, several collections of works have been created, which have been displayed at various exhibitions, international competitions and enrich the interior of the care centre. Each exhibition selects three students’ works – the exhibition at the shopping centre AKROPOLE Alfa features the finely detailed works of Krista Močalova, the expressionism of Daniels Miķelsons and the graphic works of Einārs Petrakovs.

“The main purpose of the art classes is to give the children of our centre an opportunity to socialise, or in this case to feel like an artist. As they work on their artworks and are aware that they will be exhibited among the public, the children participate more joyfully in the classes and eagerly await the opening of the exhibition. Over time, we see success as the children become more open, more involved in everyday events and develop their self-confidence as artists. Art is a way for these children to express themselves, develop and move forward in life, which is an invaluable investment in their future,” says Ilgvars Zalāns, head of the children’s art classes.

“In celebration of International Children's Day, we are pleased to provide a platform for children who will hopefully not only enjoy this exhibition, but also be motivated to pursue further artistic development. We invite everyone to take a moment in June to attend this exhibition and with your presence support the young artists on their challenging but very crucial journey towards their goal,” says Artūrs Bernhards, manager of shopping centre AKROPOLE Alfa.

Entrance to the exhibition is free of charge. The exhibition is available every day from 10:00 to 21:00 on the 3^rd floor of AKROPOLE Alfa.
